The high street offerings for fashion is monotonous and planet-killing cheap fabric laden. Fashion has become so much about following trends that you will often find the same theme in every shop with the same colour palette and the same message: “Baaaaa”.
And then there’s the time when you find an image or a logo you LOVE and want it on you, but not quite enough for a tattoo mind. Here is the opportunity to do just that!
Aim of session:
To design your own top creating an image, pattern or logo using applique, felt, embroidery and garment vinyl. You’ll create a moodboard to begin with and then a design using pen and paper before working on your top.
No sewing experience necessary - beginners, experts and in-betweeners are welcome! Bring along a top (preferably something with little stretch, 100% cotton t-shirts or denim are a good choice). Please have this ready for the first session so you can make your design fit the top.
If you have one bring along a smart phone or ipad and if you use pinterest start creating a moodboard of your favourite designs. Or, if you’d prefer, start collating magazine clippings of your inspiration and bring them along to make a physical moodboard.
The first session will begin with creating a moodboard and then making preliminary designs. We will demonstrate appliqué techniques and you will be given access to a vast array of embroidery threads, felts, fabric garment vinyls and other embellishments such as sequins, ribbons and pom-poms to work with.
The second and last session will be dedicated to transferring your design onto the top.
Benefits: You’ll make your own unique top that is better then any premium item the shops have to offer. You’ll spend two evening sessions working among other like-minded people and be given the materials to experiment and try new things.
Materials: Felt, embroidery thread, Garment vinyl, t-shirt, ribbons, pom-poms, pens and paper and more.
Cost: 4 hours £45 (Split into 2 x 2hr sessions)
